I am a vengeful God – So said Jebus while the Romans had him in the Iron Maiden.
He showed his vengeful anger two weeks ago. Obviously, our NEW (new to us) Malibu Maxx had sinned mightily. God sent down a yellow brick church named Wesley Knox. It jumped right out in front (behind?) Kari. Of course, when Kari first hit it, she decided the damage was done and kept going (seriously, woman, when you hit something, STOP!).
That was two weeks ago? Why the delay? Well, God also smote our camera (this is Bev’s camera…I had to wait until a friend from Winnipeg brought some functioning technology).
He was also angry at our boiler. And my bank account.
Damn you, Jebus. Why do you have to be so angry?

Back in January I listed my resolutions. I decided to see how far I’ve come.
1. More me time. Holy cow…I’m driving myself crazy. Seriously. I’m annoying, I’m a slob, and my jokes get tiresome. I have too MUCH me time. And I’m not joking. I’ve got to get some other projects on the go. A renovation, building something…I don’t know. But I’m sick of me.
2. Focus on Writing Well, I’ve certainly done that. I’ve given up on the short stories…and have focused on the novels. Finally finished the Nameless, and Curse of the Black Swan. Have fully plotted The Secret of Folloman Finn and have written 30,000 words. So am happy with my progress there.
3. Find a family house Ack. Can’t sell my house. Until I do that, can’t move onto this one.
4. Woodworking Shop This won’t work until I get a house. I am, however, about to start another project. I’m thinking this one: Cherry Bedside Table
5. General Tablesaw Also on hold. Not going to buy anything cast iron until we move.

Robot Chicken did a full half hour show on Star Wars. They’re quite clever, and surprisingly, Lucas endorsed it (even more surprising considering that the shows deals with some of the inconsistencies of the plot, the improbable nature of the coincidences…). From what I can tell, the whole show is on their website (because I wasted about 20 minutes there).

Stolen is the second in the Women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong. I reviewed the first a few months ago. The first, Bitten, was an okay book, one that I thought capitalized on timing rather than sheer excitement (Buffy the Vampire Slayer had catapulted Urban Fantasy into the spotlight). I dubbed it a ‘house wifes wet dream’.
I hadn’t planned on reading Stolen…but it was sitting on the table (Kari loves the series) and I was too lazy to go get something from the bookshelf, so I started it. Before I knew it, I was hooked.
This was opens up a world of demons, devils, vampires, shamans…much more interesting.

Books Reviews
Lots of little tidbits that I thought I’d post:
- sent a condensed version of The Sorcerer’s Wife to On Spec magazine. With Eileen’s help this was chopped down to under 6000 words. The original was nearly 8000 words, which is 2000 too long for most markets.
- sent Drawing Dead to the Writer’s of the Future Contest. This is a contest funded by the estate of L Ron Hubbard (the guy who created Scientology). I didn’t know much about Scientology so I went to Wikipedia. Crazy stuff. Regardless, this has nothing to do with the religion, only with the contest — which is one of the best genre contests there is. And it’s free (many contests have large entry fees…which make them more like gambling).
- finished the Nameless — my fifth novel. Did two edits on it and now it’s out to my readers (Kari, a real reader) and my virtual readers (Eileen and Bev). Then after that, I’ll have to make some fixes, then out to the agents.
- getting ready for my virtual friends to become real friends at the end of the month. Of course, Eileen hasn’t booked her plane tickets yet (hint, hint) but it should be fun. We’re going to do our usual (lines of coke, orgies, you know, the stuff that writers do) and prepare for next months World Fantasy Convention (when I try to put on my salesman’s face and pitch myself to editors and agents).
- ready to get back into writing The Secret of Folloman Finn. I’m at 30,000 words now…probably another 90,000 to go.
