I am a confessed lazy person. I don’t want to leave my house to get a movie. I hate even more taking a movie back, which inevitably leads to late fees. And Blockbuster…god, I hate Blockbuster. Ever since someone rented movies on my ‘lost’ card (a card which shouldn’t have even been issued), I have been wishing terrible things on them.
Finally, that terrible thing has come to pass. Netflix. Though for us, it’s spectacularly awesome. For $8 a month, you get a ton of movies. Sure, they’re not new releases but did I mention that it’s $8? I think it would be comparable to going into those variety stores where there’s a 1000 older movies.

My story Fight Night has been accepted for publication in the upcoming anthology 20Spec (working title) edited by Erika Holt and Jaym Gates and will be published through Absolute Xpress (the same publisher of Women of the Apocalypse). Jaym and Erika are the same crew that brought you the strangely compelling Rigor Amortis (romance meets zombies).
Fight Night tells the story of Jack Dempsey, heavyweight champion of the world, battling his toughest opponent yet: Sam The Magnificent Mauler Madison, a no-good cheat. As the stakes increase, Jack realizes his opponent will stop at nothing to win.

I never liked Scooby Doo as a kid. First, Scooby Doo was a moron. I always wanted my heroes to be, well, heroes. Second, the ghosts never ended up being ghosts. Why did it have to be Old Man Harvey from the Carnival? Why couldn’t it just be a ghost? Much more exciting that way. But this isn’t about me. This is about my 4 and 7-year-old who do happen to like that idiot dog and his doped-up sidekick (though they’ve never watched Scooby with me). It’s not scary (it’s always fake) and they find it funny. So when I rented Scooby Doo on Zombie Island…oh my.
Spoiler Alert! Turn back if you do not want to ruin Scooby Doo on Zombie Island!

One of my major projects this year was helping update the Aurora Awards website (the Aurora’s are Canada’s SF/F fan-voted awards). I’d like to say it was because I am SOOOOO selfless, but really, I won an Aurora last year and I wanted the website to present a professional appearance (something that looked like it was from geocities doesn’t really give the award much clout) plus a lot of people were frustrated with the nomination/voting application.
